Okay, I'm assuming my images are up here. Here are your options for a company logo and name. I decided to go for 3 options instead of 2. Because I like "Lark" for some reason.
I'll go through the logos one by one here and explain how I came to these conclusions. This may be a long post, you can just skim through it if you want and look for the explanations of the logo you like…or maybe a logo you're confused about.
LARK
The Lark Logos are based on using the word "lark" to mean fun or games (which I connected with the "Spade" shape from a card deck. Cards = games = Spade symbol). Also, since Lark is a bird, I added an easily recognizable bird shape.
Lark 1:
In this logo I let the text do the talking. I focused mainly on the spade symbol here. Letting the word "Lark" represent itself instead of using a bird.
Lark 2:
This one I let the bird and spade meld together. This creates an interesting shape together and if you look at it from a distance. You can almost see the shape of a kings crown. This is kind of a subliminal statement. Saying we are kings of what we do.
Lark 3:
This logo has kind of a dark mood…but the shape the birds make is almost a smile shape. It kind of contrasts the darkness leaving a balance. I didn't add any Spade to this one and just let the birds do the talking. I also like that the sheer number of birds used to create the logo help give a sense of teamwork…or a large force to be reckoned with.
Lark 4:
This one is also a melding of the bird and spades symbol. It's a very simple, classy, and easily read kind of logo. You see it and you get it. Which is nice for a logo.
PORTICO
Portico is the word used to describe the italian archetectural style of rows of columns and hallways…otherwise known as an arcade…Arcade also meant a place in the olden days when people would put something called quarters into a machine to play video games. Ask your parents.
Portico 1:
This one is simple and let's the type do most of the talking, with a subtle hint of an italian arcade beneath the word Portico. Very subtle and gives it a professional look.
Portico 2:
This one is also very simple and uses the classic graphic design technique of making a logo out of letters. In this case. the "P" and "I" of Portico Interactive. The P and I form to make a classic ionic column (the kind of column that was used in the rennaisance..and ancient greece). I had it turned the other way..but I found it to be too obvious. So I turned it around to make the P more subtle.
Portico 3:
This one uses the same kind of idea…using ionic columns…but I used them to create the image of a joystick. This way we are melding a bunch of Ideas…"P" for Portico = Ionic columns = Italian arcade = Old school video game arcade = joystick.
Portico 4:
This one, again…uses ionic columns using letters, and also has the shape of an old arcade machine. Again, a lot of different ideas melding together.
Provenance
Provenance means a lot of things…but Origin and ownership are the two most common. In this I decided to use images that would bring us back to our roots, or even try to suggest the new creation of something.
Provenance 1:
This logo is extremely simple and effective. I tried to think of what video games would boil down to. What would their origin be. And I thought of a pixel. A single square of color. This makes the logo incredibly easy to recognize and it even means something. Plus, the fact that the square is red makes it that much bolder.
Provenance 2:
Here I was thinking of "Origin", "beginnings", and how to meld that with games. So I meshed together the idea of a video game controller and an organic cell. I think the idea comes off as pretty solid.
Provenance 3:
This logo reflects the human idea of creation. The finger of god creating life. I based this hand on Michaelangelo's representation of God giving life to Adam in his work on the Sistine Chapel. Maybe this gets a tad too religious for people? I like it and am not afraid of it…and I'm certainly not religious.
Provenance 4:
This one is pretty simple. Just a simple 8 bit kind of alien you might find on an old atari game. (did atari use 8 bits?) It's easily identifiable and has a sense of fun about it.
So there you are have it. Pick your favorite and your second favorite logo and email them to me. Don't worry about specific things like color or type. All of this will be adjusted and refined once we have our winner.
Viva la company name.
